The Town of St. Helena
Known as “up-valley” to
locals and recognized as the center of the wine-growing
region of the Napa Valley, St. Helena is a quaint
town of just 6,500 residents, with many buildings built
before the turn of the twentieth-century from native stone.
St.
Helena hosts many of the founding families of the valley
and the Napa Valley
Vintners Association. The lighting
on Main Street is by antique electro Aires brought from
the 1915 Pan-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco.
Main
Street hosts specialty shops, boutiques, restaurants,
florists, and other businesses, each adding to the small-town
atmosphere of the community. Charming Main Street tends
to the interest of the community by providing the local
community efficiency that supports its common good, rather
than the tourist-drawing retail commonly found today.
The
impressive architecture of the former Christian Brothers
stone winery is now the home of the Culinary
Institute of America. Here, professional chefs continue
their studies and prepare meals at the popular gourmet
restaurant, the Wine
Spectator Greystone Restaurant.
Also of interest are the Silverado
Museum with its Robert Louis Stevenson memorabilia
and the Napa Valley Wine Library housed in the town’s
library.
The community strives for agricultural
balance and integrity to the history of what made this
town so special. It is a town of people that has
a heart tied to the land and to the people that serve
it. Every
choice for growth is weighed out with considerable consciousness
and a strong and active voice from the community erupts
in either favor or not. It is a simple way of life
here where the children are embraced, the youth encouraged,
the seniors cherished and the land simply sacred and
cared for.
St. Helena is a proud host of the
Auction
Napa Valley and monthly wine auctions and
events that serve the many needs of charities that line
the valley and beyond. Those that live here cherish the
vintner’s
lifestyle and the authentic way a farming community supports
each other and charitable efforts globally.
